A Lame Post About Internet Friends

I ended up not being able to go and see Melody today- so I had a lil cry and then started writing this about the Flan Clan because sometimes I get so overwhelmed by all these guys it’s lame.

It’s kinda soppy I’m sorry

The thing about the flan clan is that we met each other completely by chance, and if anything different had happened to any of us I don’t think we would have met at all. It was a completely random set of circumstances that brought this entirely random selection of people together. We’re each completely unique, and even though our interests differ we still find that talking to each other comes completely naturally, and I think that’s one of the things that makes us what we are.

When I mention ‘my internet friends’, I’ll get the same response that goes ‘friends? In the… computer? Not real friends, not possible, internet is bad, blah blah’, and then I get kind of mad- because these people know and understand me better than any friend I’ve ever had outside of the internet. We can just be ourselves and not have to put up the front we often do when talking to people face to face. I’m not going to use the term ‘in real life’, because the flan clan is already very real and it’s an integral part of our lives that I find comforting and motivating. I know that if I have a bad day, I can come home and rant all I like they’ll understand and help make me feel better, and when someone else is having a rough time that each of us will also do our best to try and pull through. Our geographical location does not determine whether or not a relationship is stronger or weaker, all it ever determines in how far a friendship can stretch- and it stretches pretty damn far.

On a personal level, I think the flan clan is probably one of the most positive things to ever happen to me- I mean, these are seven of the most wonderful people I’ve ever met. They’ve made me laugh until I’ve cried (and maybe peed a little), helped me through some pretty tough times, and made me understand that not everything out there is doom and gloom. I’m not sure what would have happened to me if I hadn’t met the flan clan, because I can’t imagine a life were I don’t get home and log into skype or tumblr or any other social networking platform to talk to these amazing people. I can’t imagine not having these guys to text if I’m bored or just want to talk about something silly, I can’t imagine not being able to look forward to meeting all these people that know me so well and I definitely can’t imagine any sort of future where I’m not still talking to all to these flawless friends. I hope I get back from work everyday, and log onto my computer like I have for years, I hope I can sign into skype or whatever we’re using by then, and I hope the same seven people will still there, welcoming me home and exchanging accounts of how our lives are now. No matter what happens to me in the future, as long as that happens I think I’ll be ok.

So I hope you guys know how special you are- how much happier you make my life by just existing and that you are all better than you think you are. I guess, we’ve stopped just being a group of friends on the internet, we’ve become something unstoppable. I guest you could say that we are now… a community.
